A Teacher’s Perspective on Admissions

On the first day, David Willows and Suzette Parlevliet from [YELLOW CAR] led us through experience strategy and encouraged us to reflect on a series of questions: What makes you happy? What understanding are you looking for? What connections are you hoping to make? Through a number of regular surveys at scheduled times during the conference, we were invited to pause and consider our current status, as part of our overall conference experience. It was also an excellent incentive to dig a little deeper into those questions.

As a student who moved between six different schools in three different countries before the age of 18, I don’t recall ever meeting someone from Admissions, although I am sure my parents did. As a teacher who has taught in several different international schools across four continents, I don’t recall formally being introduced to the Admissions team or being asked to collaborate with them. What a missed opportunity, because in my current role with Safe Passage Across Networks (SPAN), I have come to deeply value the role of Admissions in positive transitions-care.
