Student Ambassador Programs are an integral part of the recruitment process in independent schools. It is common knowledge that our students act as the best representatives of the school when connecting with prospective families. As admissions professionals, we are often responsible for the development of these programs.
The Ambassador Program at The Study is a leadership opportunity available for students in Grades 6 to 11. Prior to the COVID pandemic, the process to become an ambassador was straightforward: we reached out to students and they signed up. They were given an ambassador handbook, asked to complete one tour with a teacher, and then to give tours at our Open House in October. The system worked; however, as a school that prides itself on intentional and well-crafted leadership opportunities, it landed somewhat ‘flat’.
Shortly after the pandemic, we hosted an Open House. At the time, the school wanted to host the general public for tours but did not yet want our Student Ambassadors to lead the tours due to health concerns. Students were present in the classrooms to speak with prospective families, but did not guide them on the tours. Both our parent and alumnae communities stepped in to provide the tour component. It was a successful event.
