In 2014, in my mid-twenties, I decided that it was time to have an adventure. I left my job, sold my car, gave notice on my flat and went to start my adventure in France. Not a long trip in terms of distance, of course, but a large shift in my life. I went from working as a personal assistant in a global business firm to chasing sheep, growing tomatoes and putting up fences to keep ducks safe while I worked on several smallholdings and farms throughout the Dordogne region.

A year later, in 2015, the adventure escalated! While in France, I studied for my Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate, and off I went to China as a newly qualified EAL (English as an Additional Language) teacher. I joined a programme for teachers heading to Sichuan province on a three-month contract and was allocated to a university in the countryside after a week-long induction into my new country.
