We are all living the uncertain and accelerated pace of life of the 21st century. Before 2020 we thought we were planning for the future needs of our students and in general in relation to education. The truth is we must support and prepare our families to manage this new way of living whilst also giving children the tools to support themselves in their future.

Getting to Know Each Other

At Knightsbridge Schools International Bogotá (KSIB), we have a thorough admissions process to get to know each prospective student and family. We invite parents and students, as part of the admissions process, to experience a day at school. Students have the opportunity to share with their potential classmates and teachers. This allows them to understand our methodologies and their role in each class, and to experience our culture. Parents are also invited to school and have the opportunity to meet with teachers, coordinators and counselors.

School and family must work as a team. Education is something that must be done both at home and at school. We need to have good and proactive communication, and the family commitment is essential to ensure we work together, emphasizing the same values, rules and discipline parameters.

If we want to develop children and ensure they are able to flourish today and in the future, we have to begin with a good admissions process that allows us to get to know them and that the families truly understand what we do, how we do it, what we expect of them and the importance of getting on board to ensure teamwork throughout the school life.

Technology and Self-knowledge

Education today needs us to prepare students to use technology to their advantage and to develop critical thinking on what we need to work on to overcome the challenges of this century: develop problem-solving skills and competencies, reinforce communication assertiveness and ensure leadership and teamwork skills. And of course how to face the challenge of Artificial Intelligence. As an educational community, this requires us all to focus on the development of not only computational thinking and design skills, but also research and learning how to learn through inquiry; discipline, social-emotional skills, and self-knowledge.

It is also important for parents to understand and become part of this journey. Through different activities, parents and students get involved in our admissions process; we help them understand the relevance of self-knowledge, acceptance to understand ourselves, and being able to focus on what we need to improve or overcome. Along with the different interviews and school tour, parents have the opportunity to experience moments in which they have to work on what they think of their child, how they make it evident for the child and how their own self knowledge can help them in their parenting learning process.
